WhatsApp for iOS Will Soon Have the Option to Turn Off the ‘Last Seen’ Status

WhatsApp might not have many fancy features that other instant messengers have, but it definitely cares about protecting the privacy of its users. Six month ago, WhatsApp began implementing a privacy feature that would enable you to secretly hide your “Last Seen” status from certain contacts.

This feature is almost finished and it is now being rolled out for beta testers in beta version 22.9.0.70.

To access this feature, you should go to the “Privacy” settings and tap on the “Last Seen” section. In the past, this section only had options which included “Everyone,” “Nobody,” and “My Contacts.” Now, however, you can choose the new “My Contacts Except…” option, which will allow you to choose which contacts will not be able to see whether you have been online or not.

WhatsApp has also implemented the same option for the profile picture and other information. This privacy feature is very important for people who are being hounded by their partners, spouses, parents, etc.

The digital age has all but taken away our privacy. Your friends can easily see when you’ve been online, and what you have been up to. Digital traces are left everywhere and it takes a lot of effort to hide those traces from the unwelcome eyes. Thankfully, features such as the one created by WhatsApp are helping us to regain some of that lost privacy and reducing our stress levels.

What do you think about the new “Last Seen” feature that WhatsApp is going to implement? Have you ever wanted to hide your “Last Seen” status from an acquaintance without going as far as deleting them from your contact list? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
