Twitter Decided to add LinkedIn and WhatsApp Sharing Buttons for Indian Users
18 Sep 2022
Twitter has quite a significant cultural influence and the developers are looking for ways to engage users even more. Twitter added a new WhatsApp sharing button for Indian users, so they share tweets with their friends and family instead of just sending them screenshots. Also, the company created a LinkedIn sharing button.
The choice of a WhatsApp button for Indian users makes total sense considering that it is the most widely used messaging application in the region. Some Twitter users from India have already started seeing a new button in the tweet engagement settings of the platform. With its help, users will be able to quickly share any tweets they want with people they talk to on WhatsApp. According to the official statement, the company is ‘replacing the share icon on Tweets with the WhatsApp icon for the majority of people who use Twitter on Android in the country.’ With WhatsApp’s popularity in India, it is only natural that Twitter’s team decided to increase its reach by using this approach. What is more, Twitter also added the sharing option to IG stories on Android and Snapchat.
One of the major reasons for the introduction of these features is that Twitter wants to have a way to further track its data. According to the company’s information, there are more than 500 million users that are logged out yet read tweets every month on the platform. The basic idea is to see more accurate analytics related to Twitter, as the platform may have a much bigger influence on the culture compared to the figures that they currently get. This can definitely be the case, so it’s interesting to see whether Twitter will get any results with these buttons.
