Trademark Filings for Reality One, Reality Pro, and Reality Processor Suggest That Apple Might Soon Hit Us With the Big Announcement
04 Sep 2022
It looks like Apple has launched the process of filing for trademarks: Reality One, Reality Pro, and Reality Processor, which the company can use in the name and branding of its mixed-reality glasses and components. It does not necessarily mean the word ‘reality’ will be in the headset name, but it indicates that we might soon see the presentation of the first new category of Apple devices in years.
Apart from the United States, the entity called Immersive Health Solutions, LLC (which is believed to be Apple’s shell company founded in February 2022) is registering these brands in the European Union, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and a few South American countries.
The filings referred to VR and AR headsets, goggles, glasses, and other components, so one might guess that Reality One is the trademark for the future base headset, while Reality Pro is the code name for some feature-boosted higher-end version planned for a later release. Finally, the Reality Processor moniker might refer to the processing unit of the headset, which is expected to come with an M2 chip offering an 18% boost in CPU and 35% boost in GPU compared to the M1 version.
The mixed-reality glasses should be able to put Apple in direct competition with Meta, for which VR and AR have become the basis of a long-term and costly development strategy. For Apple itself, this will be a somewhat breakthrough development, too, as it has already been seven years since the company introduced its last new category of devices – the Apple Watch. So it is about time the tech giant stopped resting on our laurels and did something grand to impress us!
