Beetlejuice Returns: A Spectacular Journey Into the Afterlife with Tim Burton and an All-Star Cast

The return of an iconic character is marked by exciting new glimpses from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Following the success of sequels like Blade Runner 2049 and Top Gun: Maverick, which managed to capture the essence of their beloved predecessors, this year has showcased additional noteworthy returns, including Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and Twisters. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice promises to elevate this year of legacy sequels to an even higher level.

Taking place 36 years after Tim Burton’s beloved film from 1988, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice brings the Deetz family back to Winter River in the wake of a familial loss. The situation deteriorates further when a portal to the Afterlife opens. Burton, revitalized and ready, is back as the director, ensuring a thrilling journey. Joining him are familiar faces: Michael Keaton reprises his role, sporting the signature striped suit and wild wig, while Winona Ryder returns as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O'Hara once again plays her mother, Delia. New talents such as Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux introduce fresh characters, while Jenna Ortega, known for her role in Wednesday, captivates as Astrid, Lydia’s delightfully eccentric daughter, bringing delightful chaos to the narrative.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice graces the cover of Total Film magazine, available from 15 August, featuring an in-depth behind-the-scenes look with interviews from Burton and the incredible cast outlined above. Here, and in the accompanying images, fans can catch a glimpse of the uniquely expressive cast.

Within the magazine edition, Burton shares his journey back to creativity through the swift and dynamic approach he chose for this project, opting for practical effects rather than relying on CGI. It reflects a grand scale of imaginative, do-it-yourself filmmaking. In this context, Ryder recalls her experience filming the original and emphasizes her desire to revisit this particular movie, noting it was the one film she felt compelled to return to. Keaton expresses the excitement of bringing back a character he regards as both his favorite and most significant, a legacy he considers deeply tied to his past role as Burton’s Batman.
