Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Time to Lower DLC Expectations

Ubisoft is set to release another gem in the Assassin's Creed franchise, titled Assassin's Creed Mirage. However, anticipation for post-launch digital content may require scaling back. In a Reddit AMA session, Stephane Boudon, the game's creative director, delivered sobering news. He confirmed there were currently no substantial plans for expansive post-launch support or downloadable content (DLC) for the game.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is geared towards reintroducing fans to the franchise's roots, mirroring the 2007 original Assassin's Creed's action-adventure theme rather than the role-playing game (RPG) elements witnessed in recent versions like Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The storyline of the game centers on the life of Basim, who evolves from a street thief in the Golden Age era of Baghdad to a Master Assassin committed to seeking justice.

While hinting at a lack of extensive post-launch support, Boudon noted that the current position is "for now," suggesting that there might be a change in stance. However, it looks like DLC, if any, would be limited to minor additions such as cosmetics and bonus content at the beginning. Pre-orders are expected to include the bonus "Forty Thieves" quest, with a Prince of Persia-inspired Deluxe Pack being available in the Deluxe or Collector's Case editions.

The game director emphasized the game’s renewed focus on fluidity and control in parkour, a cornerstone of the franchise. Although key parkour features of earlier franchises are not included in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Boudon assures that a lot of work has been done to ensure Basim's smooth control. Even as the game nears its launch, the development team continues to refine the parkour feature to ensure it meets the highest quality standards.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is undoubtedly poised to offer an exciting, more compact Assassin's Creed experience. The relative lack of post-launch support and DLC might dampen a few spirits, but it’s apparent Ubisoft is channeling its resources towards perfecting the main story and gameplay mechanics of the game. After all, Assassin's Creed Mirage is intended to be a tribute to the original Assassin's Creed, which also had no DLC after launch. Whether or not the absence of extensive DLC will impact the game's reception remains to be seen, but Assassin's Creed Mirage is certainly a title to watch out for in the coming months.
